Vetical Milling Machine
Baileigh’s VM-949 is a great vertical milling machine for any small to medium machine shop or fabrication shop. Like all Baileigh machines, it’s packed with tons of standard features that are options on most other brands.
To make the VM-949 extra rigid we start with a heavy Meehanite® Casting and couple it to extra hardened ways that are coated with a Turcite® B coating for longevity and better tolerances. The Spindle is a NST 40 spindle instead of the industry standard R-8. This heavier spindle gives rigidity to the head and deploys less vibration reducing chatter. All of this allows for more chips to be made in one pass and it also allows the machine and tooling to last much longer.
For ease of operation this vertical mill has powered X, Y & Z axis. The X & Y axis utilizes a Mitutoya® DRO – digital read out for positioning down to 1/10 of a thousandth of an inch. The VM-949 turret mill is powered by a Yasakawa® inverter drive, meaning the machine has variable speeds. Thus to increase or decrease the speed you simply turn the speed potentiometer to the desired RPM as displayed on the digital readout. By eliminating the gear and pulley transmission the machine has almost no slop which again reduces chatter, prolongs cutter life, and prolongs machine life.
