Gear Head Lathe
Baileigh’s PL-1640 metal lathe has a heavy Meehanite® casting that will offer decades of profitable service providing very tight tolerances across its 40 inches of useful space between centers. It has a 16” swing over the bed allowing for some very large diameters to be turned.
This gear head lathe consists of a very heavy transmission coupled to a powerful 7-1/2 HP motor allowing for precise speeds between 30 and 2000 RPM. The combination of the two reduces chatter under heavy loads which extend tooling life.
Deep hardening and ground ways coupled to the heavy Meehanite® casting allows heavy cuts and extremely tight tolerances between the centers. Power feeds are tied to the precise DRO showing exact locations for the tightest tolerances in the industry.
All Baileigh engine lathes come standard with a Mitutoyo® 2 Axis Digital Readout System, 8" 3-Jaw Universal Chuck, 8" Back Plate, Coolant System, Steady Rest, Follow Rest, Headstock Chuck Guard with Micro switch, Micrometer Saddle Stop, Rear Splash Guard, and Halogen Work Light.. Thus, there are no options to add as everything has been factory installed to assure the highest quality on the market.
